Georgia credit union's that are interested in offering shared branching to their members can join the network as an Issuer. Issuers allow their members to conduct transactions on their accounts at a service center or outlet location. Once a credit union is an Issuer, they may choose to also become an acquirer. Acquirers operate as an outlet and can process transactions for members of other credit unions that belong to the network. Service Centers are generally locations operated by a credit union service organization or state league. Service Centers are acquirers only.
The process begins when your credit union contacts the Shared Branching Department at the state league, Georgia Credit Union Affiliates, to express interest in joining the network. A short questionnaire is completed and a zip code analysis of your members is requested. Based on this information, a price quote is prepared.
Next is a presentation to your management or board about shared branching and the costs related to certification and participation in the network. If your credit union decides to proceed, contracts are prepared and executed.
Once contracts are signed, paperwork for certification is completed and forwarded to the national shared branching network, Credit Union Service Corporation (CUSC). During the certification process CUSC works with your data processor and staff in achieving connectivity.
Prior to your credit union's live date, representative(s) from the state league will schedule member service and accounting training for your staff. The member service training focuses on teaching your staff about shared branching, what you and your members can expect, and the network rules. Accounting training ensures that settlement, reports, and adjustments for transaction activity are understood. Follow-up support and troubleshooting are also continuously provided.
The entire implementation process on average is 90 days. Time may vary based on the credit union's data processor. If you are ready to take the first step in joining the network or just want more information, please contact Liz Lewis, Vice President, Shared Branching Network at (770) 476-9625.
